Harold Markman and his wife Ida, opened their first jewelry store in October of 1976 with a simple philosophy - "Give the customer the best quality and the best service for the best price". Nothing less would do. It was a commitment to make the most of each special moment, to earn the respect of every customer and to build a business of which they could be proud and in in 1978, Harold was joined by his eldest son, Steve.

From the very beginning, customers made Markman's part of their family's special occasions. Grandmothers brought their granddaughters in for their first gold ring. Fathers and sons selected gifts of jewelry destined to become heirlooms. Nervous young men selected engagement rings for their future wives. Those granddaughters and sons are still returning with their sons and daughters to celebrate the special moments in their lives. The famous Markman's logo on a gift box quickly became recognizable and meant that something truly special was inside.

People spread the word to their friends and family about Markman's dedication to quality and service. So Markman's expanded - opening a second location in Chattanooga in 1978. Located just outside Hamilton Place Mall, the Chattanooga store offers the same high level of service, broad selection of diamonds and fine jewelry found in our Knoxville locations.

The new location did not change the Markman's original philosophy. Each employee is trained to follow the example set by Harold Markman: The art of great service combined with experience and passion - from the heart.

In September 2003, Markman's relocated its third store that opened in Knoxville Center Mall in 1984. The new location is a larger free-standing building at Isaiah's Landing in northeast Knoxville.

Today Harold, Ida, and Steve Markman are respected within the community as well as the diamond and jewelry industry. They continue to offer the finest jewelry available. Markman's Diamonds and Fine Jewelry has also had great success with our own custom jewelry. This jewelry is designed with the finest hand selected colored stones and diamonds. Over the years, several well known designer jewelry lines have been introduced, but only if the lines meet the high quality standards that the Markman's have strived to attain.
